VVHS Boys Volleyball

The Virgin Valley boys volleyball team swept two matches last week to remain in a first-place tie in the 3A South Desert League standings.

The Bulldogs defeated Somerset Academy-Losee, 3-0, at home on Monday, April 15; and then downed Cristo Rey St. Viator, 3-0, on Thursday night in North Las Vegas.

The two wins improve the Bulldogs to 11-1 in league play and 17-11 overall. Virgin Valley is tied with Valley of Las Vegas atop the 3A South Desert League, but the Bulldogs hold the tie-breaker over the Vikings.

In the win over Somerset; which Virgin Valley won by scores of 25-18, 25-14 and 25-23; Destry Tobler had 13 kills and 12 digs while Nate Panjaitan had 33 assists and eight digs to power the Bulldogs.

Andrew Muniz had 17 digs for VVHS while Bryant Denninghoff and Reece Leavitt had eight kills apiece with McKay Mulitalo adding six.

The Bulldogs swept Cristo Rey by scores of 25-15, 25-14 and 25-16. Tobler led the way with nine kills and four blocks. Alonzo Roque recorded 13 assists while Panjaitan had 10 assists and two service aces.

Aiden Muniz and Andrew Muniz chipped in with eight digs apiece while Denninghoff added seven kills. Parker Jensen and Dagen Memmott both had five kills with Memmott also notching six digs.
Virgin Valley played American Heritage Academy on Monday in a match that ended past press deadline. The Bulldogs will host Mater Academy East Tuesday at 6 pm inside the VVHS gymnasium and will travel to Las Vegas to face Bonanza on Thursday.

MVHS Softball

The Pirates won three games last week to improve to a 8-1 league record with 17-8 overall..
The first game, scheduled for Monday, April 15 ended up being forfeited by Cheyenne.
On Wednesday, the Pirates took a 17-2 win over Mater East in Las Vegas.

MVHS senior Kyndal Longman had a triple in the third inning, driving in three runs. The Pirates scored seven runs in that one inning.

Later, Longman doubled in the fifth inning, scoring two more runs: two of the six runs scored by Pirates in the fifth inning that helped end the game.
Mikelle Millet singled, scoring a run.

Cornwall had a sacrifice bunt, scoring her second RBI of the game. The first was a single in the second inning.
Raegan Stankoski singled in a run then stole home scoring one.

In the sixth Kylie Neal singled in a run and the Pirates capitalized on an error scoring two more.
Neal was the winning pitcher allowing two runs.

The Pirates beat Democracy Prep in the game Thursday 16-0 in three innings. The Pirates scored 15 runs in the first inning then a single run in the second.

Andie Wood had three hits and three RBI. Stankoski had three hits. The Pirates had thirteen total hits.
Wood allowed a hit and was the winning pitcher.

The Pirates travelled to Del Sol on Monday, April 22. They host Virgin Valley on Tuesday at 3:30 pm in the Moapa Park. Then they will host Pahranagat Valley on Thursday at 3:30 pm.

MVHS Track & Field

The Pirates traveled to Bishop Gorman on Wednesday, April 17, to compete against Cimarron, Green Valley and Gorman. Both teams took a distant second place to Bishop Gorman in the meet.
On the boys team, Mordechai Yadegar won the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.19.
Hal Thompson placed third in the 1600 meters.

Brody Redd placed second in the 100 meter hurdles while Ryker Katich placed third. Redd was also second in the 300 hurdles.
Logan Stewart won the shot put at 51-11. Gavyn Frederick placed fourth.
Frederick placed second in the discus while Stewart placed third.
Degan Jones won the high jump with a jump of 5-10. Tanner Hammons placed second.

Jackson Burt set a personal record and won the pole vault at 12-1. Caleb Anderson placed third and Dakota Bush placed fourth.
Hammons placed third in both the long jump and triple jump.

The girls team had Andrea Bell place second in the 1600 meters with Mckayla Western finishing third and Gweneth Foster fourth.
Allison Mills placed third in the 300 meter hurdles.

Claire Cox won the high jump at 5-0. Mills placed third and Bailee Patten fourth.
Amber Bodily was fourth in the pole vault.
Janet Werner placed third in the triple jump.

The Pirates will be on the road this week again. On Tuesday they go to Faith Lutheran and then to Liberty on Saturday.
