Bulldog baseball dominates Dem Prep, Sierra Vista

Virgin Valley High School baseball team destroyed the Blue Knights from Democracy Prep 23-0 and 17-0 in a two-day series last week, before holding off 4A Sky League leader Sierra Vista by a close 5-2 margin on Friday April 26.

Bulldog pitchers Dodger Smith and Tray Hughes combined for a three inning no hit, no run game on the way to a 23-0 victory.

The Dawgs lit up the scoreboard with 17 hits from their offense. Seven Bulldogs had two hits each including Drew Wakefield, Bryce Intagliata, Mason Montoya, Jayson Goodsell, Smith, Cameron Wright and Gunnar McOmie. Montoya drove in 4 runs while Smith, Intagliata and Wright added 3 each.

The Dawgs scored 12 runs in the first inning, 6 in the second and 5 in the third and last inning.
The team hosted the Blue Knights on Wednesday coming away with a 17-0 one hitter in 3 innings of play. The Dawgs hammered the Knights for 15 hits led by Wakefield and Montoya with 3 hits each. Montoya drove in 4 runs followed by Smith 3 more. Wright and Wakefield combined for the one hit win.

The Dawgs finished the week against 4A powerhouse Sierra Vista who came into the game with a 22-5 overall record and 8-0 league record.

Virgin Valley threw ace Intagliata against the strong hitting Mountain Lions. Intagliata went the distance giving up 9 hits and two late runs to the Lions.

The Bulldogs got on the board first in the third inning putting up 3 scores. Montoya singled driving in one run while Smith doubled in the other two runs.
The Dawgs added two more runs in the fifth inning to complete their scoring.

Sierra Vista battled back with a run each in the sixth and seventh inning before Intagliata shut them down.
Kurt Felix led the Dawgs with 3 hits followed by Intagliata and Cade Litzenberger with two hits each.

With last week’s wins, the Bulldogs are undefeated (9-0) in league play and sit at the #1 spot in the Desert League. Their overall season record is 22-1.

The Bulldogs end their regular season this week in back to back games against Mater East Academy on Tuesday and Thursday before playoff season starts next week.
