Bulldogs end regular season with 24-0 run

The Virgin Valley High School baseball team continued their romp through 3A competition with two wins 12-2 and 9-0 over Mater Academy East on Tuesday, April 30 in Vegas and Thursday, May 2 in Mesquite.

On Tuesday, VVHS pitcher Chandon Jensen gave up two hits for the win.
The Dawgs got on the board in the first inning. Singles by Bryce Intagliata and Mason Montoya sandwiched by a double from Kurt Felix led to three runs for the team.

The Bulldogs added one run each in the third and fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead. Montoya homered into center field in the third.
The Knights crawled back into the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

But the Dawgs blew the game wide open in the top of the fifth inning with 6 runs. The Dawgs sent up 11 batters to the plate on 4 walks, 2 singles, two doubles and a home run. The big blows came off the bats of Cameron Wright, Intagliata and a homer from Jordan Goodsell.
The Bulldogs added one run in the sixth making the final score 12-2.

On Thursday, Bulldog Mason Montoya led the Dawgs from the mound and his bat in a 9-0 shutout of the Knights at Hunter Field.

The Dawgs began the scoring with 5 runs in the bottom of the third inning. Felix led the rally with a single. That was followed by a triple to center by Montoya giving the Dawgs the only run they would need. Singles by Perry, Wright and Drew Wakefield led to four more runs.

The Dawgs finished the scoring with 4 more runs in the bottom of the fourth on singles by Perry, Dodger Smith and a double off the bat of Felix.
Montoya got the win with help from Wright and Smith in relief.

The Dawgs finished Desert League play with a 10-0 record and a first seed in the 3A South playoffs.
The Bulldogs opened tournament play Monday hosting Pahrump Valley the fourth seed from the Mountain League. That game ended after The Progress’ press deadline.

With a win on Monday, the Bulldogs will host the winner of the Boulder City-Mater East winner on Tuesday.
All games will start at 4pm.
The Meadows 10-0 in Mountain League play are the favorites in the second bracket. The championship games will be held on Friday.
The tourney is a two game elimination.
