MVHS boys win Boulder City track meet

A total of eight track and field teams from across the region traveled to Boulder City High School for the Boulder City Small School Invitational on Friday, May 3. Among them were the teams of both Moapa Valley and Virgin Valley high school.
The Pirate boys won the meet with 233 points. Virgin Valley finished third with 79 points, behind Pahrump Valley with 117 in second place.

The Pirate girls team placed third behind #1 Boulder City and #2 Pahrump Valley. The Bulldogs placed fifth.

For the boys events, Pirate runner Deagan Jones placed second in the 100 meters. Gary Leavitt finished fourth in the 200 meters while Brandon Van Vliet placed fourth in the 400 meters.
Chase Neilson placed fourth in the 800 meters.

Hal Thompson won the 1600 meters with a time of 4:56.18. Dylan Barnum placed second for the Bulldogs at 4:58.39. Grant Conger placed fourth.

Moapa Valley had three of the top four in the 3200 meters. Mordechai Yadegar won the event with a time of 9:48.43. Dylan Barnum took the 2nd place spot for the Bulldogs at 10:56.15. Will Anderson placed third and BJ Robison placed fourth for the Pirates.

The Pirates had three of four in the 110 meter hurdles. Brody Redd won it with a time of 16,42.Ryker Katich placed third and Rion Zerkle placed fourth in the event.
Redd and Zerkle placed third and fourth in the 300 meter hurdles.
Logan Stewart won the shot put for the Pirates with a throw of 52-1. Teammate Gavyn Frederick placed second.

Stewart won the discus with a throw of 140-9. Frederick took second at 137-11.
Jones won the high jump at 5-10.
Dylan Vellinga took second in the pole vault at 12’0 for the Bulldogs. Teammate Kyle Dalton took second. MVHS senior Jackson Burt placed fourth in the event.
Tanner Hammons was fourth place in the long jump for the Pirates.
Ethan Ofori won the triple jump with a leap of 41-3 for the Bulldogs. Hammons took third place.

In the girls events, Ari Easton won the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.94 for Virgin Valley. Kelsie Wagasky placed third for the Pirates.
Virgin Valley’s Jenna Walters won the 3200 meters with a time of 12:32.38.

In the 100 meter hurdles, Allison Mills placed second and Taylee Bunch placed third for the Pirates.
In the 300 meter hurdles, Anni Tobler placed 2nd for the Bulldogs. Bunch placed third in the event.
Haylie Western won the shot put for Moapa Valley with a throw of 34-2.
Claire Cox placed third and Janet Werner was fourth in the Discus for the Moapa team.
Cox also took second and Western, third, in the high jump event.
Nicole Patterson placed fourth in the pole vault for the Pirates.
Wynn Kelly finished third in the triple jump for the Bulldogs.

The Southern Regional track and field finals will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 10-11 at Bonanza High School in Las Vegas . The top four finishers in each event will qualify for the state championship meet to be held in Carson City next week.
