The Moapa Valley High School baseball team played its final two baseball games of the regular season last week; both against Democracy Prep. The Pirates won both games holding the Blue Knights scoreless in both matchups. The Blue Knights were also held hitless in both games.
In the first game, played Tuesday, April 30, the Pirates clobbered the Knights 15-0 in their final regular season home game, the last to be played in their temporary Mack Lyon Middle School home field.
Tahj Totten was 3-3 hitting and drove in four runs, scoring twice in the game.
Totten was also the winning pitcher, throwing a four-walk, six-strikeout no hitter.
Shandon Matheson also had three hits in the game driving a run. He did score three times.
The Pirates scored four runs in the bottom of the first. They added five more in the bottom of the second and ended the game in the bottom of the third with six runs scored.
The second game was played Thursday in Las Vegas for a 23-0 shutout win for the Pirates.
The Moapa team scored 11 runs in the first inning. They added two in the second and one in the third. They firsted the game in four innings as they scored nine runs in the top of the fourth including an inside-the-park grand slam home run by Nava-Gallegos.
Totten, Tyson and Lucas Pettingill each doubled driving in runs to help the Pirates.
The Pirates end regular season play as the #2 seed in the Desert League. They began the regional tournament this week. They hosted a first round game against SLAM on Monday, which ended after The Progress press deadline.
