Pirates advance past Boulder City, 5-2 in Regional second round

As part of Mesquite Days, a special “RiverWalk” activity was held Saturday, morning, May 7. Sponsored by the City of Mesquite and the Virgin River Coalition, the event started at Hafen Park. The informative nature hike was led by Biologist, Mike Swink.
The Moapa Valley High School boys volleyball team has exceeded expectations in it’s first full season. The team is currently ranked #1 in the 3A Desert Division with an overall record of 14-10, and a league record of 9-1.
Moapa Valley Pirate pitcher, Aiden Johnson pitched a complete shut out game against the Eldorado Sun Devils Monday in the first of their playoff games. Johnson allowed 2 hits, walked 2 and struck out three. His pitching drew a host of ground balls which made for some great plays in the field by a solid defense that was there to back him up.

The crews at Mesquite Fire Department were kept busy over the weekend with a pair of residential fire incidents occuring within a 24-hour period. Lake Mead National Recreation Area will close the boat launch ramp at Echo Bay on Wednesday, May 11 due to low water levels at Lake Mead, according to a National Park Service press release sent out on Friday, May 6.
The Echo Bay launch ramp was constructed for boat launching down to a lake level elevation of 1,060 feet. It has been extended in the past to accommodate recreational boating access. However, the lake level is now at 1,053.72 feet elevation. Due to a combination of the area’s unique topography constraints and continually declining water levels, the park anticipates the Echo Bay launch ramp will close indefinitely pending relocation.
The Mesquite Community Theater was filled with legendary performers on Saturday, April 30. Most likely for the first time in its history, music Legends like Barbara Streisand, Sonny & Cher, Andrea Bocelli, Rod Stewart, Dollie Parton, Billie Joel and others were gracing the local stage. Well actually, it was a talented tribute act called The Edwards Twins.
